Men's Golf leads NACC Championship after round one

AURORA, Ill. – Concordia University Wisconsin leads the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Championship after round one at Stonebridge Country Club, while rookie P.J. Clemins sits in second place with a 1-under par 71.

CUW continued its impressive efforts, with a 19-over par 307 team total to lead the NACC Championship by seven strokes. The Falcons have all five golfers tied for 19th or better. It is the first time in program history they have led in any round of the championship.

Clemins (freshman, Cedarburg, Wis.) is one shot off the lead after carding a 1-under par 71, which is one stroke shy of tying the program record of 70 that he set a week ago. Meanwhile, sophomore Evan Rabas (Sherwood, Wis.) carded a 5-over par 77 to sit in a tie for seventh and junior Mike Loftus (Germantown, Wis.) had a 6-over par 78 to tie for 10th. Junior Bill Jones (New Holstein, Wis.) is tied for 17th after shooting a 9-over par 81 and senior Chris Payne (Waukesha, Wis.) is tied for 19th with an 82.

The NACC Championship was originally scheduled for 36 holes in the fall at Whistling Straits, but inclement weather canceled the fall segment of the tournament. All 10 NACC programs will now complete the championship on Monday with a 36-hole marathon (18 holes in the morning and 18 holes in the afternoon).
