Jones ties for 25th, Men's Golf competes at Midwest Region Classic

WISCONSIN DELLS, Wis. – Bill Jones tied for 25th overall to lead Concordia University Wisconsin at the difficult Midwest Region Classic on Monday and Tuesday at Trappers Turn Golf Club. The Falcons finished 17th as a team.

Jones (junior, New Holstein, Wis.) fired a 79-76 for a 155 total tie for 25th overall out of 137 golfers who competed. He played well because of his 2-over-par 3.25 scoring average on par 3s. It was also the first time in Jones' career he carded back-to-back rounds in the 70s.

CUW shot a 335-320 total (655) to take 17th place, while Central College won the tournament by an 18-stroke margin after shooting a 301-283 two-day 584 total. David Watson (Central College) won medalist honors with a 1-under-par 143 (73-70) total.

Senior Chris Payne (Waukesha, Wis.) finished with a tie for 69th after signing for a 164 total (83-81), while junior Mike Loftus (Germantown, Wis.) had a 170 total (90-80) to move up 12 spots on the leaderboard on day two and tied for 94th position.

Sophomore Oliver Sadiq (Elkhart Lake, Wis.) shot a 175 total (83-92) to take 109th and sophomore Evan Rabas (Sherwood, Wis.) shot an 83 in the second round.

CUW next competes on Oct. 5 with one group of golfers traveling to the Benedictine University Invitational (Seven Bridges Golf Club) and another group going to the MSOE Invitational (Grand Geneva Resort).
