Prinsen scores 35, Men's Basketball falls in overtime at Concordia Chicago

RIVER FOREST, Ill. – Bradley Prinsen scored a career-high 35 points and Eric Kittel made a layup to send the game into overtime, but it wasn't enough as Concordia University Wisconsin fell to Concordia University Chicago, 98-93, on Wednesday evening.

Kittel (freshman, Brillion, Wis.) made a layup at the end of regulation to push the game into an extra period inside Geiseman Gymnasium. The Cougars would make six-consecutive free throws in the final 35 seconds of overtime to earn the hard-fought win.

There were 11 scoring ties and 11 lead changes in the game that featured 46 fouls and 54 free throw attempts. CUC shot 56.9 percent (37-of-65) from the floor, while CUW ended 45.3 percent (34-of-75) in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference matchup.

The Falcons led for nearly 17 minutes in the second half before things got interesting down the stretch. During the final three minutes and 18 seconds of the game there were four scoring ties and four lead changes.

Overtime wasn't any different, as there were five scoring ties and five lead changes during the five minute period. Marcus Elston netted nine points for the Cougars in the extra session, while Kittel (freshman, Brillino, Wis.) scored five points.

Prinsen (sophomore, Oostburg, Wis.) kept the Falcons in the game with 20 points in the opening half, as he finished 13-of-17 from the field, to go along with five rebounds, three assists and a career-best-tying five steals.

Sophomore Keith Kahlfeldt (New Berlin, Wis.) added 18 points, while Kittel finished with 17 points and four assists. Junior Mark Scholz (Greenfield, Wis.) had 11 points and six rebounds off the bench. Senior Boubacar Camara (Cenon, France) hauled in nine rebounds in a reserve role.

Kostas Doxakis led the Cougars with 29 points off the bench, to go along with seven rebounds and three steals. Elston finished with the game's only double-double, 23 points and 16 rebounds. Mike Walmer had 18 points, while Brandon Stinson and Nat Pearson scored 14 and 11 points, respectively.

The Falcons (6-6, 4-4 NACC) charged out to a game-high 10-point lead, 12-2, behind nine points from Prinsen less than four minutes into the game.

CUC (5-7, 2-6 NACC) responded and took its first lead of the game, 20-18, after using an 18-2 scoring run over a seven minute span. The Falcons answered by taking a 10-point lead, 42-32, with 50 seconds to play before halftime.

CUW held a 42-33 lead at the intermission and a 22-16 lead in paint scoring.

CUW returns to the hardwood on Saturday at 2 p.m. against Benedictine University inside the R. John Buuck Field House. The game is the first part of a NACC doubleheader with the women's program.
