Boettcher's career night leads Men's Basketball past Edgewood

MEQUON, Wis. – If there was ever a game for Brett Boettcher to put together a career performance, Tuesday against rival Edgewood College was the night. Concordia University Wisconsin capitalized on his 20 points en route to a 72-63 victory in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play inside the R. John Buuck Field House.

Boettcher (sophomore, New Holstein, Wis.) finished with a career high 20 on 8-of-9 shooting from the floor in 24 minutes to go along with a game-high 12 rebounds. It was the forward's first career double-double and third-consecutive game with double-digit rebounds.

It was a much-needed win for the Falcons (2-3, 2-1 NACC) as they began a three-game stretch in five days before finals week. They did the majority of their damage in the painted area with 42 of their 72 points scored. CUW also tallied 16 points off 10 EC turnovers.

Sophomore Keith Kahlfeldt (New Berlin, Wis.) scored 14 points and grabbed nine rebounds, while senior Steven Brodie (Oak Park, Calif.) had 11 points, including two 3-pointers, and a pair of steals. Freshman Erick Kittle (Brillion, Wis.) ended the night with six points, two steals and career highs in rebounds (five) and assists (five).

Senior Boubacar Camara (Cenon, France) scored a season-high eight points and grabbed six rebounds in an energetic 10 minutes off the bench.

The Eagles (3-2, 1-1 NACC) were led by Joe Klocek's 17 points and 10 rebounds, while Dylan Heemstra recorded 11 points and four rebounds in a reserve role. Matt Savatski added nine points on three 3-pointers.

Scoring was hard to come by in the first 13 minutes of action, as the Eagles led 17-16 after going on an 11-7 scoring run. CUW answered to take a 32-30 lead into the locker room at halftime.

The Falcons held a 24-12 advantage in paint scoring at the break and Boettcher posted 11 points and six rebounds.

During the final 20 minutes of play, there were six scoring ties and six lead changes before the final horn sounded. The Falcons turned a four-point deficit, 52-48, with 10:42 to play in the game into a 69-58 advantage nearly nine minutes later.

As the scoreboard transitioned in CUW's favor, there were seven players who helped put together the 21-6 scoring run. Junior Mark Scholz (Greenfield, Wis.) tallied five points and Camara put in four points as the momentum shifted.

The Falcons return to action on Thursday with a road NACC matchup at Lakeland College at 7 p.m.
