Men's Basketball drops NACC road game at Lakeland

MEQUON, Wis. – Keith Kahlfeldt scored a team-high 24 and Bradley Prinsen recorded a career-best 18 points, but it wasn't enough as Concordia University Wisconsin dropped a 97-86 game at Lakeland College in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play.

CUW led by as many as nine points in the early going and held the lead for just over nine minutes until LC went on an extended scoring run. The Muskies' Justin Ward controlled the first half, while James Oshkeshequoam took over in the final period of play.

Ward tallied 20 points in the first half and spearheaded a 28-5 scoring run over a nine minute and 18 second run that turned a LC deficit into a 14-point advantage. The deficit was too much to overcome for the Falcons, despite three players scoring in double figures.

The Muskies held a double-figure advantage for all but a few minutes in the second half and shot 55.0 percent (33-of-60) for the game.

Kahlfeldt (sophomore, New Berlin, Wis.) finished 9-of-15 from the floor, including a career-best three long balls, to go along with six rebounds and three steals. Sophomore Bradley Prinsen (Oostburg, Wis.) poured in a career-high 18 points on 8-of-15 shooting, which included 14 points in the second half.

Freshman Eric Kittel (Brillion, Wis.) was efficient on both ends of the court with career highs in assists (seven) and steals (four). He also drained a pair of triples to finish with eight points. Sophomore Brett Boettcher (New Holstein, Wis.) recorded his second-consecutive double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.

Ward scored a career-high 34 points for LC on 9-of-16 shooting, which included four 3-pointers and 14-of-15 free throws, to go along with 10 rebounds and two blocks. Oshkeshequoam finished with 28 points on 9-of-16 shooting, including four 3-pointers and six free throws. Kurt Jansen also had 12 points off the bench for the Muskies (5-2, 2-1 NACC).

CUW (2-4, 2-2 NACC) shot 44.0 percent for the game and built a nine-point lead, 17-8, just over six minutes into the game behind nine points from Kahlfeldt.

The Falcons twice cut the deficit to seven points, including with 1:09 to play in the game. However, the Muskies sank 4-of-4 free throws in the final 37 seconds to stay in front.

CUW had 51 points in the paint and held a 19-4 difference in second chance points after forcing 16 turnovers. LC tallied 56 points in the paint and held a 20-5 lead in fast break scoring.

CUW will play its third game in five days on Saturday as it travels to Benedictine University for a 5 p.m. NACC contest.
