Men's Basketball defeats Dominican on the road

RIVER FOREST, Ill. – Concordia University Wisconsin had four players score in double-figures and it scored 50 points in the paint en route to an 83-71 victory at Dominican University during Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play on Tuesday.

The Falcons trailed by a field goal just over seven minutes into the opening half before going on a 26-8 scoring run to take control with a 16-point lead with three minutes to play before halftime. During the scoring run, they tallied 16 points in the paint including four-consecutive field goals around the basket.

CUW's 50 points in the paint was a season-high and it also held a 27-14 advantage in points off turnovers. The lead increased to 19 points early in the second half before the Falcons held off a late Stars charge that saw them get within seven, 74-67, with 3:02 to play.

Sophomore Keith Kahlfeldt (New Berlin, Wis.) led all players with 19 points on 7-of-12 shooting, including a career-high-tying three 3-pointers. Sophomore Dustin Thumann (Marshfield, Wis.) started his second-straight game and finished with career highs in points (14), rebounds (seven), assists (two) and steals (two).

Junior Mark Scholz (Greenfield, Wis.) tallied 12 points on 6-of-7 from the floor in a reserve role, while sophomore Bradley Prinsen (Oostburg, Wis.) netted 11 points. Freshman Antwon Johnson (Hawthorne, Calif.) had a career game with seven points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals.

CUW was balanced in numerous statistical categories, but was difficult to defend as nine players played between 15 and 27 minutes.

Ryan Risley led DU with 16 points, while Logan Harris had 14 points and seven rebounds. Josh Mayberry added 12 points, six rebounds, seven assists and three steals. Anoribe Nwannewuihe recorded 10 points and six rebounds off the bench for the winless Stars (0-10, 0-6 NACC).

The opening period featured three scoring ties and five lead changes, but it was all Falcons in the second half. Kahlfeldt led all players at the break with 13 points, as CUW led 45-32.

During the second half seven players recorded at least four points for the Falcons, as they finished the game 34-of-71 from the field (47.9 percent).

CUW will take some time off for Christmas before returning to play on Monday, Dec. 30 at Finlandia University.
