Men's Soccer pushes winning streak to eight straight

RIVER FOREST, Ill. – It didn't take long for Concordia University Wisconsin to take control on Sunday afternoon, scoring less than 12 minutes in to what eventually ended in a 5-0 victory over Concordia University Chicago. The Falcons are now a victory away from clinching the outright Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference regular season title for the first time in program history.

THE BASICS
Final Score:
Concordia Wisconsin 5, Concordia Chicago 0
Location: River Forest, Ill.
Records: Concordia Wisconsin 14-2-1 (8-1-0 NACC), Concordia Chicago 6-10-1 (2-7-0 NACC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Falcons controlled all facets of Sunday afternoon's matinee match against the Cougars. Not only did they score three times in the first 30 minutes of action, but they also outshot the hosts 12-0 on goal (30-5 in overall shots) and held a 9-2 advantage in corner kicks.
- Freshman Kyler Pope (Muskego, Wis.) found the back of the net for the first time in his career after he gathered a rebounded deflection in front of the net and fired past the Cougars goalkeeper. Senior Keegan Van Dusseldorp (Burlington, Wis.) was credited with the assist on the play.
- Nearly 16 minutes later at the 28:00 mark of the opening period, sophomore Luis Loya (Bolingbrook, Ill.) converted a free kick by senior Diego Campos (Milwaukee, Wis.) and headed the back in for a goal and a Falcons 2-0 lead.
- Less than three minutes later, freshman Dagoberto Diaz (Woodburn, Ore.) had a nearly identical goal after heading in a ball from a corner kick from none other than Campos.
- Van Dusseldorp scored his 11th goal of the season after receiving an excellent pass from junior Justin Clayton (Crete, Ill.) at the 47:11 mark of the second half to give CUW a commanding 4-0 advantage.
- Clayton ended the scoring barrage with a marker of his own four minutes later when he intercepted a clearing attempt and scored from the top of the box.
- With the Cougars getting very few opportunities on offense, Falcons senior Alec Brew (Appleton, Wis.) didn't face a shot but earned the victory in just over 80 minutes of action. His record improves to 12-1-1 on the season. Junior Kevin May (Mississauga, Ontario) also saw nearly 10 minutes of action in goal.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- CUW had six players take multiple shots and four of those players had two or more shots on goal.
- Campos' two assists were the third time this season he had multiple helpers.
- Brew has not allowed a goal in six-consecutive games and earned a victory for the first time this season when not making a save.
- The Falcons need to defeat Lakeland on Wednesday to become the NACC's outright regular season champions. It will be their first regular season league title since winning the Lake Michigan Conference in 2004.

THE OPPOSITION
- Fabian Robles and Roberto Avila each took a pair of shots for the Cougars, while Chris Arevalo had a shot attempt.
- Goalkeeper Jorge Guzman (4-9-1) took the complete game loss after facing 12 shots and making five saves.

NEXT ON THE SCHEDULE
- CUW concludes the regular season with a 3:30 pm NACC match on Wednesday at Lakeland.
