Elmhurst Tops Men’s Soccer

ELMHURST, Ill. – Monday saw the CUW men's soccer team fall to the Bluejays of Elmhurst University 5-1, pushing the Blue and White's record to 5-8-2 overall.

Crisp passing in the 13th minute gave the Bluejays the early 1-0 lead over CUW.

Elmhurst tacked on to their lead in the 42nd minute following a cross that found the head of a Bluejay attacker, directing the ball into the back of the net, giving them the 2-0 lead heading into halftime.

But the Falcons would scratch the first goal of the second half. In the 54th minute, junior Alishan Sharipov (Krasnodar, Russia) drew the foul inside the 18-yard box after a series of moves to weave past a pair of Elmhurst defenders before being taken down by an oncoming Bluejay. On the penalty kick was sophomore Carson Kelly (Fond Du Lac, Wis.), who ripped the shot to the right of the diving Elmhurst keeper for his third goal of the season to cut the Bluejay lead to 2-1.

Off a corner, Elmhurst managed to recapture their two-goal advantage in the 60th minute as the ball bounced inside the 18 and found the foot of a Bluejay, who directed it past the CUW goalkeeper to take the 3-1 lead.

The Bluejays would find the back in the net in the 77th and 80th minute to seal the game and take the 5-1 victory.

In the loss, Carson Kelly led the flock with one goal and two shots on goal. Defensively, sophomore goalkeeper Jeremy Munoz (Milwaukee, Wis.) recorded six saves.

The Falcons will now shift their attention to the Stars of Dominican University, who will travel to Fitting Field on Saturday, Oct. 21st, with kickoff slated for 3:30 p.m.
