Moehn's header gives Men's Soccer Senior Day overtime win over Marian

MEQUON, Wis. – Once you break a streak, the rest seem to come easy. At least that's the way things have gone for the Concordia University Wisconsin Men's Soccer program and overtime contests. The Falcons gained another win in overtime, their fourth straight in matches that have needed extra time, for a 1-0 win over Marian University Wednesday thanks to the golden goal from junior Jordan Moehn. The match was also Senior Day and was the seventh straight win for the Falcons as they remain atop the NACC standings.

THE BASICS

- Final Score: Concordia Wisconsin 1, Marian 0 (F/OT)
- Location: Fitting Field – Mequon, Wis.
- Records: CUW 13-2-1, 7-1-0 NACC; Marian 11-4-1, 4-3-1 NACC)

HOW IT HAPPENED

- Much like Saturday's win over Dominican, neither team could find the back of the net through 90 minutes of play. The Falcons held a 15-9 edge in shots in regulation and also had all four shots in overtime.

- This match took a little longer to get the overtime winner as Moehn (Fond du Lac, Wis.) scored with just 1:26 remaining before a second extra session would have been needed. He took a corner from senior Diego Campos (Milwaukee, Wis.) and headed it in for his seventh goal of the season.

- The corner was one of three by the Falcons over the final minute as Campos had a couple other chances to set teammates up. The senior takes nearly all the Falcons corners and for good reason as he served up a perfect ball to Moehn for the win.

- Another match, another shutout for the Falcons. It was a fitting way for this senior class to celebrate Senior Day as two starting defenders, Bobby Russ (Wauwatosa, Wis.) and Jake Barnes (Fort Atkinson, Wis.), along with goalkeeper Alec Brew (Appleton, Wis.) played huge roles in the shutout. The Falcons have posted five straight shutouts.

- BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

- It was the 41st win for this senior class, 13 of those coming this season. Senior Keegan Van Dusseldorp (Burlington, Wis.), who tallied one shot, along with Brew, Barnes, Campos and Russ, were honored at halftime. A pair of other seniors, Mark Samuel (Brookfield, Wis.) and Kevin May (Mississauga, Ontario) missed Wednesday's match due to various circumstances.

- The Falcons have won four straight matches which have gone to overtime, which is impressive no matter how you look at it. When you consider CUW had gone 26 previous overtime matches without a win, it really shows the impressive nature of the streak.

- Moehn now has two overtime winners in his career, the other coming against then No. 5 UW-Whitewater on September 23. Freshman Dagoberto Diaz (Woodburn, Ore.) and junior Sean Cropper (Green Bay, Wis.) have the other overtime winners for the Falcons this season.

- Brew continued his remarkable streak of scoreless action at keeper in the win. He has now gone 490-plus minutes without allowing a goal. The last team to score on Brew was Aurora on October 3, and that goal was 6:30 into play.

- The Falcons remained atop the NACC standings with the win and continue to control their own destiny for a regular season NACC title. CUW has a four-point lead on both Benedictine and Aurora, while they have a six-point advantage on MSOE, but have one more match finished than MSOE thus far.

UP NEXT
