Van Dusseldorp's two goals lead Men's Soccer to shutout win over Monmouth

MEQUON, Wis. – Count the Monmouth College Men's Soccer team as another on the long list of opponents who will be glad once they no longer have to face Keegan Van Dusseldorp after this season. The Falcons senior netted two more goals, giving him six in four matches, to lead his team to a 2-0 win over Monmouth Saturday.

THE BASICS

- Final Score: CUW 2, Monmouth 0
- Location: Fitting Field – Mequon, Wis.
- Records: CUW 3-1-0, Monmouth 1-2-0

HOW IT HAPPENED

- Van Dusseldorp (Burlington, Wis.) got the scoring started just 8:11 into play when he scored off a cross from fellow senior Bobby Russ (Wauwatosa, Wis.).

- The Scots were forced to play without their starting goalkeeper and with only 10 players from the 28th minute on. Monmouth goalie Charles Powell came up to make a sliding save, but was just out of the box, resulting in a red car.

- A foul in the box in the 41st minute (40:02) allowed Van Dusseldorp a penalty kick opportunity. He would convert for his sixth goal of the season.

- The Falcons defense and senior keeper Alec Brew (Appleton, Wis.) posted their third shutout of the season. Brew stopped three shots as CUW had a 32-4 edge in shots throughout the match, including a 16-3 edge in shots on goal.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

- The multi-goal match was the sixth of Van Dusseldorp's career and second of the season. He now has a goal in every match this season, having scored six of the Falcons nine in 2015.

- Brew posted his sixth career shutout and second of the season. His career-high for shutouts in a season is four from his sophomore year (2013).

- Russ already has two assists this season, which is tied for a career best. He also had two assists in 2013.

- Van Dusseldorp has scored every goal in the Falcons last two matches against the Scots. Last season, he also had two goals in a 2-0 victory.

THE OPPOSITION

- Charles Powell was listed as a defender, but was forced into a backup goalkeeper role after the early red card. Powell played very well in reserve, allowing just the PK score, while making 10 saves.

UP NEXT

- The Falcons will host Knox tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. in another non-conference matchup. Live coverage links will be available at CUWFalcons.com.
