Men's Soccer outlasts Beloit in non-conference matchup

BELOIT, Wis. – The Concordia University Wisconsin Men's Soccer team continued its winning ways with a 4-3 non-conference victory over Beloit Wednesday. The Falcons built a 4-1 lead, before surrendering two late goals for Beloit, holding on for the 4-3 victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- The Falcons opened the scoring in the 23rd minute as senior Keegan Van Dusseldorp (Burlington, Wis.) scored his NACC-leading seventh goal of the season. Van Dusseldorp now has a goal in five of the Falcons first six matches this season.

- The score was made 2-0 in the 41st minute as freshman Ryan Kreuser (Suamico, Wis.) netted his first career goal for the Falcons.

- Beloit scored in the final minute of the first half as Daniel Stockton recorded a goal with 22 seconds remaining before the break.

- In the second half CUW built a 4-1 lead, beginning with a goal just into the 56th minute by junior Jordan Moehn (Fond du Lac, Wis.). Sophomore Luis Loya (Bolingbrook, Ill.) assisted on the Moehn score.

- Senior Diego Campos (Milwaukee, Wis.) made the score 4-1 in favor of the Falcons with a penalty kick score at the 63:36 mark.

- Beloit would make things interesting with a pair of goals over the final 17 minutes. The Buccaneers first scored in the 74th minute on a goal from Joe Froelich. Stockton then recorded his second of the match with just 1:23 to play in regulation, but CUW would hold on for the 4-3 win.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

- The 4-1-1 start is the best for the Falcons since the 2004 season. In 2004 CUW began with six straight wins before dropping its next two matches.

- Van Dusseldorp is on an absolute tear to begin the 2015 season. He has brought his career goals total to 33 and his 15 points also lead the NACC.

- Senior Alec Brew (Appleton, Wis.) picked up his fourth win of the season by making one save in 46:18. Sophomore Killian Mielotz (Grafton, Wis.) also saw 43:42 minutes of playing time and made one save as well.

- CUW has fared well against Beloit dating back to the 2003 season. The Falcons are 8-2-2 in that time span and have now won three straight against the Buccaneers. CUW is also 4-1-1 in contests play in Beloit in the series.

THE OPPOSITION

- Stockton scored on his only two shots, while Froelich led Beloit with three shots on goal. Jere Bauer was the goalie of record for the Buccaneers as he stopped six shots in 62:16.

UP NEXT

- CUW will begin conference play Saturday with a home matchup against Wisconsin Lutheran. The Falcons and Warriors will begin play at 1 p.m. at Fitting Field.
