Men’s Hockey repels the Vikings

MEQUON, Wis. – The CUW men's hockey team stayed in the driver's seat in the NCHA North Division race with a 3-2 victory at Lawrence to improve to 7-10-0 on the year and 4-1-0 in the NCHA North Division.

The Vikings scored the lone first-period goal to take a lead after 20 minutes.

Senior Nick Guiney (Victoria, B.C.) tied the game at one, off passes from junior Thomas Dyball (Papillion, Neb.) and senior Nick Guerra (Victoria, B.C.).

Lawrence retook the lead with a goal seven minutes into the third period.

Five minutes later, junior Luc Kreuser (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.) leveled the game again off passes from freshman Jordan Guiney (Victoria, B.C.) and senior Cole Pickup (Victoria, B.C.).

With less than two minutes left in the third period, junior Brandon MacKinnon (Etobicoke, Ont.) scored the game-winning goal off a pass from Braydon Barker (Red Deer, Alta.).

Freshman Liam McGarva (Fort Saskatchewan, Alta.) had 31 saves in the victory.

CUW held a 36-33 shooting advantage on Friday night.

The Falcons will host round two on Saturday evening.
