Men’s Hockey comeback falls short

MEQUON, Wis. – The CUW men's hockey team fought until the very last second on Wednesday night but fell short in a non-conference game to MSOE, 3-2.

Freshman Michael Makarenko (Calgary, Alta.)  put away a shot on a two-on-one with senior Cole Pickup (Victoria, B.C.) with freshman Jordan Guiney (Victoria, B.C.) adding a secondary assist.

The Raiders then leveled the game at one, 33 seconds later.

Senior Nick Guiney (Victoria, B.C.) gave the Falcons the lead 12 minutes into the second period from the left circle off passes from senior Nick Guerra (Victoria, B.C.) and senior Luke Ranallo (St. Paul, Minn.)

MSOE tied the game up again a minute later and took the lead halfway through the third period.

The Falcons found themselves with a six-on-three advantage in the final minute of play but were unable to find the back of the net.

Freshman Liam McGarva (Fort Saskatchewan, Alta.) had 31 saves on the night.

CUW held a 42-34 shots advantage on the night, led by senior Braydon Barker (Red Deer, Alta.) with eight.

The Falcons return to action on Friday night in Illinois for a non-conference game at Aurora.
