MSOE defends home ice on Friday

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The first round of the Lake Michigan Cup went the way of the Raiders on Friday night. MSOE won the game, 3-2, to open the year at 1-0-0 and send CUW to 0-3-0 on the season.

MSOE struck first in the second period striking as a CUW penalty had just expired.

CUW opened the third period with a long pass from senior Braydon Barker (Red Deer, Alta.) to senior Cole Pickup (Victoria, B.C.) to put the Falcons on the scoreboard.

The Raiders took back the lead with two goals.

The Falcons cut into the deficit with a power-play goal from junior Cory Dennis (Madison, Wis.) off a rebound from a shot from Braydon Barker with a secondary assist to Cole Pickup.

Junior Bo Didur (West Vancouver, B.C.) finished the game with 37 saves.

MSOE held a 40-25 shots advantage on Friday night. Braydon Barker led the team with five shots.

CUW won 32 of the 59 faceoffs, with senior Nick Guerra (Victoria, B.C.) winning nine.

The two teams will compete on Saturday evening at the Ozaukee Ice Center. CUW will need to win the game to force a shootout to win back the Lake Michigan Cup.
