Men’s Hockey falls in an exhibition game against the US National U-18 Team

PLYMOUTH, Mich. – The CUW men's hockey team opened the NCAA hockey season on Friday evening against the United States National U-18 Team. The US NTDP U-18 team improved to 6-0-0 on the young season with an 8-2 victory.

Team USA struck first in the first period on a one-timer shot from Sasha Pastujov (Bradenton, Fla./Notre Dame) and struck again 12 seconds later with a goal from Caden Brown (St. Louis, Mo./Wisconsin).

The Red, White and Blue then scored on the power play with 13:18 remaining in the first period off the stick of Dylan Duke (Strongsville, Ohio/Michigan).

Senior Cole Pickup (Victoria, B.C.) responded 47 seconds later with a shot that found the back of the net off of assists from senior Nick Guiney (Victoria, B.C.) and sophomore Michael Fradette (Victoria, B.C.).

Junior Bo Didur (West Vancouver, B.C.) secured 13 saves in the start.

The Americans struck again on the power play in the second period with a shot from Sean Behrens (Barrington, Ill./Denver).

Dylan Duke scored again at the 6:19 mark of the second period for Team USA. At the 16:15 mark of the second period Ryan St. Louis (Riverside, Conn./Northeastern) found the back of the net.

With less than a minute left in the second period, freshman Tyler Pang (Victoria, B.C.) snuck a short-angle shot past the Team USA netminder. Senior Nick Guerra (Victoria, B.C.) and Cole Pickup added the two assists.

With 6:38 left in the game, Tyler Boucher (Haddonfield, N.J./Boston Univ.) opened the scoring for Team USA. Sasha Pastujov then redirected a shot into the net 78 seconds later.

Junior Erik Schuette (Olathe, Kan.) collected 19 saves on Friday evening.

The CUW defense killed off five penalties on Friday.

Team USA held a 40-13 advantage on shots on the night.

The Friday evening meeting was the first meeting between the two teams.

The Blue and White are one of three NCAA Division III schools competing in the fall semester, including Adrian and Trine.

The Falcons will return to Michigan on Thursday, Nov. 5 as they open the regular season at Adrian.
