Field Hockey Student-Athletes Claim NFHCA Academic Honors

MEQUON, Wis. - The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) announced its 2023 NFHCA Division III National Academic Squad and the NFHCA Division III Scholars of Distinction. The Falcons landed seven student-athletes on the National Academic Squad and two Scholars of Distinction.

"These are two amazing honors for our team," said head coach Samantha Schoessow. "I am proud of the commitment our team has made to our program and our academics. The NFHCA has some high requirements to qualify and our players still qualify. They have once again put a lot of hard work in this year. Seeing their hard work continue to pay off on the field and in the classroom is great to see."

The duo of senior Renee Lund (Vista, Calif.) and senior Sophia Vandeloecht (St. Louis, Mo.) made their fourth appearance on the team.

Junior Paige Armijo (Reseda, Calif.) and senior Abby McGue (St. Louis, Mo.) both claimed their third honor.

Sophomore Katelyn Cardinale (Mt. Laurel, N.J.) claimed her second-straight honor.

Freshman Lotta Bruder (Frankfurt, Germany) and senior Halli Schneiderwendt (Appleton, Wis.) claimed their first honor in 2023.

Over 1,800 student-athletes from 156 Division III institutions have been named to the 2022 NFHCA Division III National Academic Squad. To be named to the National Academic Squad, one must have attained a cumulative grade-point average of 3.5 or higher through the fall semester of the current academic year.

For the first time in program history, the Falcons had two NFHCA Division III Scholars of Distinction. This distinguished program honors undergraduate student-athletes who have exhibited exceptional academic excellence, achieving a cumulative grade-point average of 3.9 or higher throughout the fall semester of the 2023-24 academic year.

Claiming the honor for Concordia was Lotta Bruder and Halli Schneiderwendt.

They are the first two Falcons to claim the honor.

An impressive total of 509 undergraduate student-athletes have earned well-deserved recognition as NFHCA Division III Scholars of Distinction.
