MEQUON, Wis. – The Concordia Wisconsin field hockey team closed the weekend on Sunday morning against the Sabres of Marian in a non-conference matchup. The Sabres secured a 4-1 victory to send the Falcons to 2-7.
The Sabres struck first on Sunday on a penalty stroke in the first quarter.
Marian held the 1-0 lead into halftime.
The Black and Blue blitzed the Falcons with 18 shots and 11 penalty corners in the third quarter. The Sabres took advantage of a yellow card and extended the lead to two.
The Falcons struck back in the 55th minute when freshman Lotta Bruder (Frankfort, Germany) scored her first collegiate goal off an assist from senior Sophia Vandeloecht (St. Louis, Mo.).
Marian quieted the comeback with goals in the 56th and 60th minutes.
Senior Halli Schneiderwendt (Appleton, Wis.) secured 18 saves on Sunday.
Lotta Bruder led the CUW attack with three shots on goal.
The Falcons resume Southern Athletic Association play on Saturday at Centre.
