CUW Secures a Sensational Senior Day Win Over Sewanee on Sunday

MEQUON, Wis. – The Concordia Wisconsin field hockey team celebrated the senior class on Sunday morning at Tomasini Stadium. The Falcons secured a 1-0 victory to put the exclamation point on the senior day festivities.

Sunday started off slowly with only one shot in the first quarter. That shot came from freshman Lotta Bruder (Frankfurt, Germany).

The Falcons had a few more chances in the second quarter. Senior Alex Klamm (Glen Carbon, Ill.) had the first shot of the frame and sophomore Katie Quirke (Antioch, Ill.) bounced the ball off the post.

It was the Tigers who were the aggressors to start the third quarter with a pair of shots in the first two minutes of the quarter, but senior Halli Schneiderwendt (Appleton, Wis.) came up with the saves.

The Falcons then started to blitz the Sewanee net with nine-straight shots.

The Blue and White finally broke through with a goal from senior Sophia Vandeloecht (St. Louis, Mo.) to celebrate senior day off an assist from fellow senior Berit Poirier (Vista, Calif.).

The Tigers had another shot to end the third quarter, but Halli Schneiderwendt won that battle.

Concordia had shots from freshman Caitlyn Weitzel (Fallston, Md.), Sophia Vandeloecht and senior Abby McGue (St. Louis, Mo.) in the fourth quarter.

The Tigers had one last chance on a last-minute breakaway, but the CUW defense shut the threat down to secure the victory.

Halli Schneiderwendt had three saves in her first career shutout. The shutout is the first of the season and the first since a 4-0 victory at Transylvania on Oct. 15, 2022.

The Falcons held a 17-3 advantage in shots on Sunday. Katie Quirke led the flock with four shots.

The Blue and White honored the senior class of Sarita Arsham (Houston, Texas), Alex Klamm, Renee Lund (Vista, Calif.), Abby McGue, Berit Poirier, Halli Schneiderwendt and Sophia Vandeloecht.

Concordia Wisconsin closes the regular season on Saturday at home against Marian.
