Falcons Blow Past the Scarlet Hawks

CHICAGO – The Concordia Wisconsin women's volleyball team blew down the Scarlet Hawks in the windy city on Saturday. The Falcons improved to 9-7 and 4-0 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference with a 25-16, 25-14, 25-15 victory.

The Falcons found themselves in an early 6-0 hole in the first set. The Falcons took the lead at 10-9 with a service ace from sophomore Stella Zarling (West Bend, Wis.) and never looked back. Zarling finished with two aces in the first set.

Concordia crushed IIT in the second set and ballooned the lead to 20-9 with a service ace from junior Emma Essex (Hoffman Estates, Ill.). A kill from sophomore Noelle Smith (Davenport, Iowa) gave the Falcons the set at 25-14.

The Scarlet Hawks held a brief lead in the third set, but the Falcons slammed the door on the Scarlet Hawks with an 8-0 run to end the match.

The Falcons had a balanced attack with six players with a kill. Sophomore Jaydin Vosters (Neenah, Wis.) and senior Maycee Karpfinger (Wauwatosa, Wis.) both finished with seven kills.

Sophomore Mickenzi Benter (De Pere, Wis.) finished with 19 assists while sophomore Brianna Lundt (Rosendale, Wis.), Stella Zarling and sophomore Abby Proefrock (Grafton, Wis.) all had 10 digs.

Stella Zarling blasted the Scarlet Hawks with five service aces.

The Falcons look to continue their winning ways on Thursday at Alverno.
