Digs for Emilee event a success

MEQUON, Wis. - The Digs for Emilee event held this past Wednesday in conjunction with Concordia University Wisconsin's volleyball Senior Day was an enormous success. With assistance from the volleyball program and help from hundreds of fans, over $1,500 was raised to support Emilee Ziorgen in her fight against Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma and cancer research.

"I can't say thanks enough for the support everyone showed Wednesday night," head coach Joe Cawley said. "It was an honor to be part of a special event like this. Cancer has affected my family and it affects millions of families across this country. The volleyball team wants to thank everyone for supporting not only our program, but also supporting cancer research."

Throughout the contest against MSOE on Oct. 26, there was a 50/50 raffle, t-shirts for sale, and a pink mini helmet signed by Brett and Deanna Favre available for bid in a silent auction.

Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma is cancer of the lymphoid tissue, which includes the lymph nodes, spleen, and other organs of the immune system. Treatment for the cancer generally consists of radiation and/or chemotherapy treatments.

On the court, the Falcons used a 3-1 (25-15, 23-25, 25-15, 25-18) victory over MSOE to end their season with three-consecutive victories. The senior class of Brittany Deinlein, Amy Gray, and Amanda Wilke all ended their careers with double-doubles.

Following the match Cawley asked all those who have been affected by cancer to join the volleyball team in standing up for cancer. Those affected wrote the name of someone who has passed or is fighting cancer on a sign (which is shown in the photo below).
