Volleyball’s NAC Tournament hopes remain alive with road victory

With its chances of making the Northern Athletics Conference Tournament fading, Concordia University Wisconsin won't go down without a fight. On Friday evening it claimed a 3-1 (17-25, 25-21, 26-24, 25-23) league volleyball road victory Friday evening over Concordia University Chicago at Geiseman Gymnasium.

The Falcons (4-18, 3-7) victory was the first in conference play since a 3-1 win over Alverno College on Oct. 7. With two league matches remaining CUW's goal of making the NAC Tournament still remains alive.

CUW's offense was jump started in the second set when it hit .467 with 12 kills and three errors on 30 attempts. The Falcons defense was steady as they accumulated 11 blocks during the match and was led by senior Amanda Wilke's (Oak Creek, Wis.) six blocks - two solo, four assisted.

Brittany Deinlein (senior, New Berlin, Wis.) smashed a season-high 17 kills to go along with 18 digs for her seventh double-double this season. Hannah Griffiths (freshman, Antigo, Wis.) finished with 14 kills and no attacking errors in 37 attempts. Sophomore Ashley Faber (Kewaskum, Wis.) and senior Amy Gray (Urbana, Ill.) combined for 42 assists.

Savanna Ashbaugh led CUC (10-15, 5-6) and all players with 51 assists while recording 13 digs. Claire Mackey recorded 13 kills and 12 digs during the match.

CUW returns to the friendly confines of the R. John Buuck Field House for its final two regular season matches of the season. Saturday the Falcons host Aurora University at 4 p.m., before competing against MSOE on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
