Seniors lead Volleyball to season-ending victory

Box Score: CUW 3, MSOE 1

MEQUON, Wis. -
Playing in potentially the final match of their careers, Concordia University Wisconsin's three seniors led the volleyball program to a 3-1 (25-15, 23-25, 25-15, 25-18) Northern Athletics Conference victory over MSOE on Wednesday night inside the R. John Buuck Field House.

The Falcons entered the night needing an Alverno College victory over Concordia University Chicago and a win themselves to advance to the NAC Tournament. Unfortunately, CUC swept AC to end the Falcons season.

CUW, however, didn't disappoint the nearly 900 in attendance - the largest crowed of the season - as they earned its third-straight conference victory to end the season. Seniors Brittany Deinlein (New Berlin, Wis.) and Amanda Wilke (Oak Creek, Wis.) finished with 19 and 14 kills, respectively. Senior Amy Gray (Urbana, Ill.) recorded a team-high 20 assists.

CUW (6-18, 5-7 NAC) battled hard in the second set, but fell to put a small blemish on what was an exciting and emotional night. During the Falcons three frame victories they built controlling leads, at times double-digits, which allowed head coach Joe Cawley to use 13 players in the match.

Each of the Falcons' three seniors recorded double-doubles, while sophomore Ashley Faber (Kewaskum, Wis.) added 13 assists and 11 digs of her own.

Kassey Hoffmann assisted on a match-high 22 kills, while Ali LoBue recorded 24 digs for MSOE. Kathl Collingbourne and Stephanie Hasler finished the match with double-doubles, respectively.

Overall, CUW concluded the match with a .200 hitting percentage compared to MSOE's .079 hitting percentage. The difference in the match was the front line play of several Falcon players, as they recorded 10 team blocks. Junior Amanda Stahmann (Van Dyne, Wis.) led the way with four block assists.
