Falcons Compete at CCIW Duals

WHEATON, Ill. - After a nine-day hiatus, Concordia wrestling got back to competition on Saturday at the CCIW Duals in Wheaton, Illinois. The event saw the Falcons take on the Aurora Spartans and Augustana Vikings.

The opening dual of the day featured the Falcons' and Spartans' second meeting of the season, having met at the NWCA National Duals on January 6.

Junior Devin Gore (Plymouth, Wis.) started the matchup strong for Concordia, taking the bout at 125 pounds by a 19-4 technical fall.

Aurora took the next two matches to bring the score to 9-5 in its favor before Mason Markham reclaimed the lead for the Falcons, notching a second-period fall.

The Spartans picked up the following match before junior Corey Bagby (Salem, N.J.) secured another win for Concordia at 149 pounds. Senior Carson Cook (Las Vegas, Nev.) then collected a technical fall to grant the Falcons back-to-back victories, assembling an 18-0 performance.

Aurora countered the effort, seizing control of the dual in the later matches by collecting victories at 165 and 174 pounds.

Senior Jonathan Pullen (Joliet, Ill.) responded with a continuation of his strong season for Concordia, notching a fall in just 1:48 of action to bring the Falcons back within striking distance.

The Spartans thwarted the Falcons' comeback attempt, compiling victories in the final two bouts to take the dual by a 36-16 score.

Concordia's second contest of the day was a battle with the Augustana Vikings in the schools' 10th meeting.

Gore collected his second victory of the day in the dual's opening bout, earning a 7-6 decision in favor of the Falcons.

Augustana answered the defeat with victories in the following three matches before Cook joined Gore in the two-win club, picking up a second-period fall at 157 pounds.

The Vikings tallied fall victories in the next two matchups, pushing their lead to 28-9.

Jonathan Pullen became the third Concordia wrestler to collect two wins on the day, notching a fall late in the third period in his match at 184 pounds.

Augustana collected falls of their own in the remaining two matches, solidifying a 40-15 victory.

Concordia will be back in action on January 26 at the Wheaton
