Wrestling Finishes Day One of Wheaton’s Pete Wilson Invite

WHEATON, Ill. – The CUW wrestling team traveled to Wheaton for the Pete Wilson Invite.

In the 125-pound weight class, sophomore Devin Gore (Plymouth, Wis.) got the day kicked off with a 5-1 decision, but followed that up with a 1-6 decision defeat. He kicked off the consolation bracket with a 5-1 decision victory. He ended his weekend with a sudden-victory defeat.

Junior Emilio Acosta (El Paso, Texas) competed in the 133-pound weight class. He was defeated in his first round by a 4:16 fall. He followed that up with a 2-6 decision defeat to end his weekend.

In the 141-pound weight class, freshman Frank Budederi (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) was defeated by a 4:19 fall in round one of the championship bracket. In the consolation bracket, Budederi was defeated by a 0-14 major decision.

Senior Val Kochiu (Oak Creek, Wis.) competed in the 149-pound weight class and started the day with a decision victory followed up by a fall victory. Kochiu was moved into the consolation bracket with a quarterfinal fall defeat.

In the 165-pound weight class, senior Carson Cook (Las Vegas, Nev.) finished his weekend with an 0-2 record including a 1-4 decision defeat and a 0:52 fall.

Freshman Dawson Galvan (Chula Vista, Calif.) competed in the 174-pound weight class and opened up his weekend with a 1:03 fall defeat. He finished his weekend with a 0-15 tech fall defeat in the consolation bracket.

In the 184-pound weight class, freshman Ruben Vasquez (Westminster, Calif.) saw all falls with an opening-round fall victory and a second-round fall defeat. He opened his time in the consolation bracket with an 11-4 decision victory. He ended his weekend with a tech fall defeat in the consolation bracket.

Junior Peyton Smith (Milwaukee, Wis.) competed in the 197-pound weight class. He claimed a 17-2 tech fall victory in round one and a 10-4 decision victory in round two. Smith was moved to the consolation bracket with a quarterfinal defeat by a 0-6 decision.

In the heavyweight division, senior Dalton Sell (Muscatine, Iowa) started strong with a 3:57 fall victory. 

He followed that up with a round-two fall at 3:16. Sell finished up his afternoon with a sudden-victory defeat. 

He will compete on Saturday in the consolation bracket.

The Falcons will finish the weekend on day two of the Invite on Saturday.
