
Wrestling Closes Citrus Invitational
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Citrus Invitational came to a close on Friday afternoon. The Falcons had two wrestlers advance to Friday in the Citrus Invitational and had seven others compete in the Warrior Bracket. The Blue and White picked up two victories on the day. The Falcons finished in 12th place with 44.5 points. No. 2-ranked Augsburg won the team competition with 219.5 points.
Senior Val Kochiu (Oak Creek, Wis.) started the day in a rematch against Elijah Cyr of Castleton at 149 pounds. Cyr avenged his Thursday loss with a 7-3 decision. In the seventh-place bout, Parker Kratochvill recorded a fall at 2:35.
Senior Dalton Sell (Muscatine, Iowa) opened the day against Abbas Abdulrahman of Castleton, but Abdulrahman secured a 15-8 decision to advance. In the seventh-place bout at 285 pounds, Shea Garand of Castleton won by fall at 1:38.
In the 141-pound Warrior bracket, senior Gabe Rodriguez (Las Vegas, Nev.) opened the day with a 15-5 major decision over Jonathan Ward of Ferrum. Eli Sneed of Cornell then sank Rodriguez with a 12-11 decision. Freshman Frank Budederi (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) also won his first bout of the day with a fall over Andrew LeMire of St. John's (Minn.) at 3:00. Nick Kaufman of Roanoke ended the run with a fall at 3:24.
Sophomore Devin Gore (Plymouth, Wis.) fell by a 6-2 decision to Mac Cafurello of Roanoke in the 125-pound bracket.
The 133-pound bracket saw Ty Daugherty of Roanoke win by fall at 5:39 against junior Emilio Acosta (El Paso, Texas).
At 165 pounds, Jackson Gonzalez of Cornell captured a fall over senior Carson Cook (Las Vegas, Nev.) at 6:25 and Jack Campbell of Roanoke posted a 4-0 decision over sophomore Bryce Claypool (Morris, Ill.).
Adam Selek of John Carroll captured a fall over junior Jonathan Pullen (Joliet, Ill.) at 0:39.
At 184 pounds, Stefan Farian of John Carroll won by fall over senior Alexandros Alexiades (Oswego, Ill.) at 4:08.
The Falcons return to action again on Saturday, Jan. 7 at Wheaton.
