Falcons Sweep Season-Opening Double Dual

MEQUON, Wis. – The CUW wrestling team opened their season with a powerful showing in a double dual with Carthage and Lakeland.

In the Carthage matchup, the Falcons finished with a score of 40-2.  The dual saw two falls and a tech fall.

The Blue and White opened the matchup with a 5:14 fall victory from sophomore Devin Gore (Plymouth, Wis.).  That fall was followed up with a 17-0 tech fall from senior Gabe Rodriguez (Las Vegas, Nev.).

In the 141-pound weight class, junior Emilio Acosta (El Paso, Texas) took a 10-4 decision victory to put the Blue and White up 14-0.

Senior Jack O'Donnell (Huntington Beach, Calif.) swung a 6-1 decision victory which added another three team points.

The Firebirds claimed their only points in the 165-pound weight class.

Junior Jonathan Pullen (Joliet, Ill.) was the second Falcon to be victorious with a fall at 6:32 for another six team points.

Freshman Ruben Vasquez (Westminster, Calif.) claimed his first collegiate points for the flock with a 12-4 major decision victory in the 184-pound weight class.

In the 197-pound weight class, senior Alexandros Alexiades (Oswego, Ill.) claimed three team points for the birds with a 7-1 decision.

Senior Dalton Sell (Muscatine, Iowa) received a forfeit victory which gave the Falcons their 40-point total.

The Falcons showed their dominance in their dual with Lakeland.  Four victories from falls, five from forfeits, and one sudden victory gave the Falcons 57 total points.

Acosta and senior Carson Cook (Las Vegas, Nev.), and Sell all finished with fall victories.

Alexiades finished with a sudden victory with a takedown in the overtime period.

The Blue and White will take on Bryant and Stratton on Friday before the 29th annual CUW Open on Saturday.
