Wrestling Rocks Aurora in Final Home Dual

MEQUON, Wis. – The CUW wrestling team took on the Spartans of Aurora in their last home dual of the season Thursday night.

The Falcons started with a forfeit at the 133-pound weight class to give the Spartans a 6-0 lead early.

The first Falcon wrestler to compete was junior Austin Vincent (Stockton, Ill.). With two takedowns and a penalty point, Vincent took the 5-0 decision to move the team score to 3-6.

Bryce Claypool (Morris, Ill.) took a forfeit at the 149-pound weight class.

The first Falcon of the night to win with a pin was junior Jack O'Donnell (Huntington Beach, Calif.). 

After three takedowns, O'Donnell was able to pin his opponent for the ninth time this season to take six points for the team. He improves to a team-high 22-7 on the year.

At the 165-pound weight class, junior Quinn Hoopman (Cedar Grove, Wis.) was the second to win with a fall to take six more team points giving the Falcons that 21-6 lead.

Carson Cook (Las Vegas, Nev.) was defeated by a fall in 42 seconds to take the Spartans within nine.

In the 184-pound weight class, sophomore Peyton Smith (Milwaukee, Wis.) recorded the third Falcon fall victory in 5:29 to put the Falcons out of reach of the Spartans at 27-12.

Sophomore Cam Mercer (Glenview, Wis.) was another Falcon that fell victim to a pin in the fourth minute to give six more team points to the Spartans.

In the second to last matchup of the night, junior Jerrell Carey (Chicago, Ill.) took his opponent into overtime but was defeated by a 3-1 sudden victory.

The Falcons saved the best for last with a 125-pound forfeit from the Spartans to end the night with a final score of 33-21.

The Falcons turn their focus toward next Thursday when they head to Wheaton for the CCIW Championships.
