Wrestling Places Seventh at Elmhurst

ELMHURST, Ill. – The CUW wrestling team competed at the Elmhurst Al Hanke Invitational on Saturday. The Falcons claimed one individual champion and finished in seventh place as a team with 63 points. Wisconsin-Stevens Point won the tournament with 122 points.

Freshman Bryce Claypool (Morris, Ill.) was the individual champion in the 149-pound weight class. Claypool went 4-0 on the day. He started with a 7-1 decision over Justin Dicono of Wheaton then won by injury over Drew Vlasnik of Chicago and Cael Saxton to advance to the finals. He then won by fall at 1:36 over Charlie Dojan of North Central to claim the title.

Junior Dalton Sell (Muscatine, Iowa) secured the bronze medal in the 197-pound bracket on Saturday. He opened the day with a fall over Jakub Maciorow of Wisconsin-Whitewater at 4:05 and a fall over Blake Flach of Wisconsin-Stevens Point at 2:11. In the third-place match, he won by fall over Jackson Creasy of Lincoln at 2:08.

Junior Gabe Rodriguez (Las Vegas, Nev.) finished in fourth place in the 133-pound weight class on Saturday. He started the day with a 10-6 decision over Tuvsin Zunnbayan of Harper and advanced to the semifinals with a 14-1 major decision over Blake Cagle of Lincoln.

Senior Austin Vincent (Stockton, Ill.) finished with three victories in the 141-pound bracket. He opened the day with a 10-2 major decision over Mohammed Abbosov of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. He then posted a 3-0 decision over North Central's Ruettiger and a fall over Caleb Magruder of North Central.

Freshman Bryce Rowley (Rifle, Colo.) recorded two victories by fall in the 141-pound weight class at Elmhurst. He took down Rufino Bustos of Morton and Jean Guerrero of Morton.

Sophomore Adler Henn (Milwaukee, Wis.) won by fall over Mostafa Abdel-Maguid of Henry Ford at 1:58 in the 157-pound bracket.

In the 165-pound weight class, junior Quinn Hoopman (Cedar Grove, Wis.) posted a victory by forfeit over Logan Edwards of St. John's.

Senior Noah Hardy (McMurray, Pa.) won by decision in the 184-pound weight class over Matthew Durbin of Wheaton, 7-0.

Junior Alexandros Alexiades (Oswego, Ill.) earned a victory by fall over Richard Oh of Chicago at 174 pounds at 2:30.

The Falcons return to action on Friday at Lakeland.
