Wrestling drops dual against UW-Parkside

MEQUON, Wis. – Concordia University Wisconsin and UW-Parkside put on a show Thursday night inside the R. John Buuck Field House, but it was the Rangers who earned a hard-fought 21-19 victory over the Falcons.

Each team won five bouts, but it was UW-P (NCAA Division II) who found a way to earn the come-from-behind victory after earning a major decision and decision win in the last two bouts to erase a 19-14 deficit.

The Rangers won the first two bouts of the evening to take an 8-0 lead after the match started at 157 pounds. The Falcons answered with three-straight wins to take a 10-8 advantage. Sophomore Mason Mergener (Crivitz, Wis.) won by decision, 4-2, at 174 pounds, while sophomore Mason Baumgartner (Slinger, Wis.) picked up a convincing major decision victory, 17-3, at 184 pounds before senior Jake Reuteler (New Berlin, Wis.) won by decision, 6-1, at 197 pounds.

UW-P had the only pin of the night at 285 pounds in five minutes and 24 seconds, but then gave up the 125 pound weight class by forfeit to freshman Maxim Reiderer (Milwaukee, Wis.). Senior Sean Ambrocio (San Antonio, Texas) won the Falcons last bout of the night by decision, 3-2, in tie-breaking format at 133 pounds.

The Rangers captured the final two bouts of the night by major decision at 141 pounds and by decision at 149 pounds.

CUW returns to the mat on Saturday for the Border Brawl, in which they will compete against host UW-Whitewater at 11 a.m. The Falcons also wrestle UW-Eau Claire at 12:45 p.m. and Cornell College at 2:30 p.m.
