Wrestling defeats North Central in dominating fashion

NAPERVILLE, Wis. – Concordia University Wisconsin trailed North Central College after four bouts, but put together an impressive scoring run that included three wins by fall to earn a 32-12 victory on Thursday night inside Merner Field House.

The Falcons won the opening two bouts of the match to go ahead 7-0 before dropping the next two to fall behind 9-7. What happened over the next five bouts was impressive to say the least, as CUW scored 25 unanswered points to take all momentum away from NCC.

CUW (4-1) won the first two bouts of the match to go ahead 7-0. Freshman Maxim Reiderer (Milwaukee, Wis.) won by decision, 8-4, at 125 pounds and senior Sean Ambrocio (San Antonio, Texas) picked up a technical fall victory, 8-0 at 133 pounds.

The Cardinals won the next two bouts to take a slim 9-7 advantage after a technical fall and major decision before CUW took over with a string of impressive wrestling. Junior Pierce Holtfreter (Las Vegas, Nev.) started the scoring run with a pin in 4:43 at 157 pounds. Senior Casey Kenealy (Hartford, Wis.) followed with a 5-2 decision at 165 pounds before sophomore Mason Mergener (Crivitz, Wis.) earned a 9-1 major decision victory at 174 pounds.

Sophomore Mason Baumgartner (Slinger, Wis.) and senior Jake Reuteler (New Berlin, Wis.) each won by fall in 1:26 and 1:39 at 184 and 197 pounds, respectively. The Cardinals took the 285 bout by decision, 8-5, after the match was already decided.

CUW will have a week off from competition before hosting UW-Parkside inside the R. John Buuck Field House at 7 p.m. on Jan. 22.
