Spartans Surge in Second Half

MONTGOMERY, Ill. – The Concordia Wisconsin men's soccer team was unable to hold onto the lead in the second half on Saturday afternoon at Aurora. The Black and Blue picked up a 4-2 victory to send the Falcons to 3-3-0 on the year and 1-1-0 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference.

The Spartans struck early with a goal in the third minute.

In the eighth minute, junior Alishan Sharipov (Krasnodar, Russia) collected the ball with his head and sent the ball to the far side of the net off passes from senior Miguel Garcia (Batavia, Ill.) and freshman Vladimir Campos (Milwaukee, Wis.).

In the 63rd minute, the Falcons soared down the field in and scored in transition. Vladimir Campos found Alishan Sharipov sneak past the defender in front of the net and buried the ball past the keeper. The play was set up by a nice touch from senior Ivan Cuellar (Milwaukee, Wis.).

The Spartans then tied the match up 75 seconds later and took the lead in the 72nd minute. Aurora then added a last-minute goal off a header.

Both teams finished with 16 shots and four corners on Saturday.

Sophomore Jeremy Munoz (Milwaukee, Wis.) had four saves.

Vladimir Campos led CUW with four shots.

The Falcons look to bounce back on Wednesday at Wisconsin Lutheran.
