St. Norbert Stymies Men’s Soccer

MEQUON, Wis. – The Concordia Wisconsin men's soccer team fell Wednesday afternoon to the Green Knights of St. Norbert College 2-1, pushing CUW's record to 4-5-0 overall and 2-3-0 in conference play.

The Falcons entered the match coming off a thrilling 3-2 victory over the Regents of Rockford, while the Green Knights went into the game following a Saturday loss against Dominican.

CUW secured the early lead in the 14th minute of play, as junior Alishan Sharipov (Krasnodar, Russia) cutback pass found freshman Vladimir Campos (Milwaukee, Wis.) unmarked inside the box. With the ball approaching, Campos stuck out his foot to send the ball to the lower-right side of the goal, making its way past the diving St. Norbert keeper, securing the 1-0 lead for Concordia.

But in the 22nd minute, St. Norbert leveled the score at one.

Neither team was able to tack on another goal in the first half, as the score was knotted 1-1 entering halftime.

Nearly 13 minutes into the second half, the Green Knights pulled in front, again finding the back of the net to hold the 2-1 lead.

Despite their best efforts, CUW could not close the gap and fell 2-1.

In the loss, senior Ivan Cuellar (Milwaukee, Wis.) led the flock with four shots, while Vladimir Campos recorded three team-high shots on goal. Junior goaltender Alexis Diaz (Gurnee, Ill.) totaled nine saves in his first action between the posts this year.

The Falcons will now have their sights set on Saturday, Sept. 30, where they will travel to Stuart Field and take on the Scarlet Hawks of Illinois Tech.
