Jones ties for 17th, Men's Golf competes at Culver's Edgewood Fall Classic

JANESVILLE, Wis. – Bill Jones began his collegiate career with a tie for 17th to lead Concordia University Wisconsin at the Culver's Edgewood College Fall Classic. The Falcons finished in 14th place at the 6,849-yard, par-71 Glen Erin Golf Course on Saturday.

Weather halted play during the opening round, forcing golfers to finish what holes they had remaining and play the final 18 holes on Saturday.

Jones (New Holstein, Wis.) carded an 82 during the first round before shooting a 1-over-par 72 – the best round of any Falcons golfer. He had an 11-over-par tournament total. CUW shot a 644 team total (328-316).

A pair of school tied for first with a 30-over-par 598 total, University of Dubuque and Viterbo University. UD had two squads in the field and its Blue team shot a 310-288, while VU recorded a 294-304.

Mitchell Sobotta (University of Dubuque, Blue) won individual medalist honors with a 2-under-par 140 total (73-67), which included the tournament's low round. Finishing in second place was Ryan Heide (St. Olaf College) with a 1-under-par 141 total (70-71).

Junior Chris Payne (Waukesha, Wis.) and freshman Oliver Sadiq (Elkhart Lake, Wis.) were second in the CUW lineup with a 162 total to tie for 50th place. Payne carded an 82-80 and Sadiq shot an 81-81.

Sherwood, Wis. Evan Rabas tied for 66th with a 167 cumulative total (84-83) and sophomore Mike Loftus (Germantown, Wis.) recorded a 76th place finish with a 173 total (87-86).

CUW returns to the course on Sunday, Sept. 8 for the first round of the Midwest Region Classic at Trappers Turn Golf Course.
