Men’s Basketball hooks Lakeland in the NACC opener

SHEBOYGAN, Wis. – The CUW men's basketball team started off the NACC season with a 101-87 victory. The Falcons improved to 2-0 on the year and sent Lakeland to 1-1 on the young season.

"Tonight was a tough road game to start NACC play," said head coach Shawn Cassidy. "I am happy with the way that we responded late in the game with our veterans taking control."

The two teams fought back and forth on Friday night and exchanged the lead on a handful of occasions.

Senior Joey Zietlow (Oak Creek, Wis.) broke a 37-37 tie late in the first half and the Falcons never looked back.

A layup from junior Jared Jurss (Sheboygan, Wis.) gave CUW a 48-41 victory at halftime.

The Falcons pushed the lead up to 17 points with 10:52 remaining with a jump shot by freshman Matt LeVene (Manitowoc, Wis.).

Senior Jordan Johnson (Cedarburg, Wis.) led all players with 32 points in the victory and secured the double-double with 14 rebounds.

Joey Zietlow reeled in 25 points and four blocks against the Muskies.

Jared Jurss earned his second double-double of the year with 14 points and 12 assists.

Sophomore Grant Karsten (Decatur, Ill.) finished the evening with 11 points.

CUW held a 46-33 rebounding advantage on Friday.

The two teams will meet again on Saturday evening at Lakeland.
