Sewanee Succeeds on Sunday

SEWANEE, Tenn. – The Concordia Wisconsin field hockey team fell to 1-9 with a non-conference loss at Sewanee on Sunday. Sewanee secured a 2-0 victory to improve to 6-6.

The Tigers struck first on Sunday with a goal 89 seconds into the contest.

Sewanee had seven shots in the first quarter.

The Concordia offense came alive at the end of the second quarter with a flurry of shots from junior Katie Quirke (Antioch, Ill.), sophomore Leah Mouganis (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and junior Katelyn Cardinale (Mount Laurel, N.J). Quirke and Mouganis were both able to get a shot on the keeper before halftime.

The Falcons had another opportunity late in the third quarter on a penalty corner but Katie Quirke had her shot blocked.

The Tigers added another goal in the 56th minute to secure the victory.

Sophomore Parks Cawthray (Oakville, Ont.) had seven saves on Sunday.

Katie Quirke led the Concordia attack with three shots.

Sewanee held a 16-5 advantage in shots on Sunday afternoon.

The Falcons look to bounce back on Saturday morning at home against Kenyon.
