Scots Sink Field Hockey

WOOSTER, Ohio – The Concordia Wisconsin field hockey team battled on Saturday at Wooster. The Fighting Scots secured a 4-2 victory to send the Falcons to 1-4.

The Scots struck first on Saturday morning in the 10th minute off a corner.

The Falcons tied the contest in the 27th minute when freshman Naomi Little (Hartland, Wis.) scored off an assist from sophomore Emily Robertson (Canton, Mich.).

Five minutes later, Wooster reclaimed the lead early in the third quarter.

Junior Katie Quirke (Antioch, Ill.) responded with a goal 64 seconds later from five yards out and an assist from senior Paige Armijo (Reseda, Calif.).

Wooster scored the final two goals of the contest to secure its first victory of the year.

The Falcons led the contest with a 24-23 advantage in shots. Katie Quirke led the contests with 11 shots.

The Blue and White had 10 saves on Saturday. Freshman Carlijn van der Bend (Voorburg, Netherlands) had eight saves, while sophomore Parks Cawthray (Oakville, Ontario) and sophomore Bella Vandeloecht (ST. Louis, Mo.) both had a save.

The Falcons will play on Saturday in the Collegiate Field Hockey Conference opener against Mary Washington.

CUW will no longer play at Wittenberg on Sunday. Due to a possible threat to campus on Sunday, September 15, all scheduled events and activities on campus are canceled.
