Wenzelburger catches 2 TDs, Football cruises to victory over Rockford

MEQUON, Wis. – Concordia University Wisconsin pulled away from Rockford College in the second quarter after Austin Damaschke and Garrett Wenzelburger connected for a pair of passing touchdowns to give the Falcons a 40-3 home Northern Athletics Conference victory on Saturday afternoon.

CUW's (5-3, 4-1 NAC) defense created just one turnover but was able to give its offense multiple opportunities to score with a short field. Damaschke (sophomore, Bristol, Wis.) connected on 16-of-23 passing for 180 yards and three touchdowns.

The Falcons used less than 3:21 of game clock on each of their six scoring drives. A pair of Falcon running backs, LaCurt Evans and Joe Paul, along with quarterback Ryan Owen each rushed for a score.

Junior John Palese (West Bend, Wis.) led CUW with nine tackles, six solo, while senior Anthony Hoitink (Sheboygan, Wis.) recorded seven tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss. Sophomore Uzziel McDermit (Kansasville, Wis.) and freshman Tim Koehler (DeForest, Wis.) each recorded a pair of sacks. Sophomore Brett Waldorf (Hartford, Wis.) also had a sack.

Jacob Gorsuch went 21-for-39 and threw 286 yards for the Regents. Dane Kirk caught six passes for 104 yards, but Matthew Botello, the league's second leading rusher, was held to 39 yards on 13 carries.
