No. 19 CUW proves to be a nightmare for No. 4 Iowa State

MEQUON, Wis. – The 19th-ranked CUW ACHA men's hockey team took down the fourth-ranked Cyclones of Iowa State on Thursday night with a thrilling 4-3 victory.

The Falcons were able to start the game by killing off a penalty halfway through the first period.

Senior Dakota Delbridge (Tracy, Calif.) flashed the leather early and kept the game scoreless early on Thursday night.

The fourth-ranked Cyclones were able to find the back of the net in the 15th minute on a two-on-one breakaway.

Iowa State lit the lamp again two minutes later on a turnover in the CUW defensive zone.

The Falcons found their way onto the scoreboard halfway through the second period when sophomore Connor Doyle (Naples, Fla.) tipped in a shot from sophomore Easton Williams (Racine, Wis.). Freshman Nick Roberts (Milwaukee, Wis.) added the secondary assist.

The CUW goal was the first of the season for the Falcons against the Cyclones.

Sophomore Trenton Sherman (Farmington, Minn.) tied the game with a shot that trickled through the five-hole off passes from Connor Doyle and Easton Williams.

The Falcons struck again on the power play off the stick of Trenton Sherman. He scored off passes from Connor Doyle and senior Cody Faber (Wilmot, Wis.).

The Cyclones leveled the game with a power-play goal late in the third period.

Freshman John Swiatek (Rochester, N.Y.) scored with 22.3 left in the game to secure the victory.

Dakota Delbridge collected 38 saves against the Iowa State offense.

The two teams will compete on Friday afternoon for game two of the series.
