Women's Lacrosse stunned in MWLC OT loss to Augsburg

MEQUON, Wis. – Every winning streak must come to an end at some point and Concordia Wisconsin was stunned on Friday afternoon during a 16-15 overtime MWLC loss to Augsburg at Fitting Field. The defeat snapped the Falcons 28-game conference winning streak and possibly took away their chance at the outright MWLC regular season title.

THE BASICS

Records: Augsburg 12-5, 8-3 MWLC; Concordia Wisconsin 11-5, 10-1 MWLC

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Augsburg found itself down by four goals, 14-10, midway through the second half before calling timeout and adjusting its game plan. The Auggies then outscored the Falcons 6-1 over the game's final 16:27 to stun the hosts on their home turf.
- What finally snapped a multitude of various winning streaks for Concordia Wisconsin was a free-position goal by Augsburg's Izzy Snow one minute and 33 seconds into overtime.
- It was surely a close matchup, as Concordia Wisconsin never led by more than four goals the entire game. Augsburg's four-straight goals to end the game were the most in a row during the contest.
- The Falcons entered with one of the nation's longest conference winning streaks at 28 games in a row and was also riding an eight-game winning streak. They also had a home 22-game winning streak.
- In order for Concordia Wisconsin to win the MWLC regular season title for the third-straight year they need Beloit (5-5 MWLC) to defeat IIT (9-1 MWLC) on Saturday. If IIT were to win they would share the MWLC regular season title with the Falcons.
- Sophomore Christina Pattengale (Portage, Mich.) led the Falcons offensive attack with four goals and an assist, to go along with three ground balls, five draw controls and three caused turnovers.
- Junior Caitlin Henry (Lansing, Ill.) and sophomore Kristen Kennedy (London, Ontario) each had hat tricks, and Kennedy also assisted on two scores. Junior Allison Kurek (Chicago, Ill.) recorded five ground balls, five draw controls and two caused turnovers.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Concordia Wisconsin caused 15 turnovers and five players caused two or more.
- The Falcons outshot the Auggies 48-32, held a 32-22 difference in ground balls and won 16-of-28 draw controls, however, the Auggies scored twice on free-position attempts.
- The Falcons never trailed in the game until the final goal and the scoreboard was tied four times throughout the league matchup.
- Concordia Wisconsin last lost a league game was April 22, 2014 to Carthage at home (L, 13-15), which was just over three seasons.
- Paquin's 11 shots are tied for the sixth most in a game in program history and the Falcons 48 shots were the third most in a game.
- Freshman Nicole DeMeo (Niles, Ill.) picked up a season-high five ground balls and Kennedy's five points were a career-high. Paquin's five draw controls were a career-high.

THE OPPOSITION
- Izzy Snow led the Auggies roster with five goals and two assists, while Demey Everett had a hat trick. Helena Hguyen tallied two goals and two assists.
- Everett won seven of the visitors 12 draw controls. Christina Nelson caused three turnovers and picked up four ground balls.
- Marissa Guillou played well in net with 18 saves during a winning effort.

- Concordia Wisconsin travels to Rock Island, Ill., for a 11 am Sunday non-conference neutral site game against Colorado College, who ranks second in the latest NCAA West regional rankings.
