Scharmer, Wagner lead Women’s Basketball to victory

RIVER FOREST, Ill. – Concordia Wisconsin's dominating tandem of Audrey Scharmer and Brianna Wagner had solid performances again and the Falcons turned it on during the second half en route a 73-61 victory at Concordia Chicago inside Geiseman Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- No matter if it's a home or road game, the Falcons duo brings their best abilities and Saturday they each recorded double-doubles during the team's fourth-straight road win. More importantly, their efforts helped the visitors overcome a seven-point halftime deficit by scoring 20-plus points in each of the third and fourth quarters.
- Concordia Wisconsin ended the period with an 18-11 lead and was poised to extend it even further, but Concordia Chicago had other plans. The hosts responded with 25 points and shot 62.5 percent before halftime to own a 36-29 lead at the break.
- Halftime adjusts quickly showed, as the Falcons scored nine-consecutive points in two minutes and 15 seconds to own a two-point lead, 38-36. What was more impressive, was the 12-2 scoring run over the final 4:25 of the third quarter to go ahead for good.
- It looked as if the Cougars could possibly make the game intense down the stretch, but the Falcons closed the game with a 10-2 scoring run to walk away in victory.
- Senior Brianna Wagner (Fond du Lac, Wis.) had her sixth double-double of the season with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Senior Audrey Scharmer (Winona, Min.) recorded her 13th double-double after scoring 14 points and pulling down 12 rebounds.
- Freshman Clara Chambers (Mineral Point, Wis.) had 12 points and four assists, while junior Baylee Barker (Oconomowoc, Wis.) tallied 10 points, career-high seven rebounds and five assists.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Concordia Wisconsin dominated the glass, with a 47-28 rebounding advantage. They had 10 offensive rebounds that were converted into 11 points.
- The Falcons caused 11 turnovers and held the Cougars starters to 19 points.

THE OPPOSITION
- Sophia Leon had a team-high 17 points, while Michaela Thornton added 16 points. Both players came off the bench. Taylor Jacobsen scored 11 points, but turned the ball over six times.

NEXT ON THE SCHEDULE
- Concordia Wisconsin receives a NACC Tournament first-round bye because of its No. 2 seed and will face either No. 3 Benedictine, No. 4 Lakeland or No. 5 Concordia Chicago on Saturday, February 24 at 1 pm on the campus of Wisconsin Lutheran in semifinal game.
