BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – By gaining a 2-1 edge in doubles play, the Concordia University Wisconsin Men's Tennis team edged Illinois Wesleyan University, 5-4, Thursday in non-conference play. The Falcons and Titans split the singles matches, allowing CUW to gain the win.

THE BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles allowed the Falcons to take a 2-1 lead into the singles matches. The No. 2 duo of freshman Christian Docter (Madison, Wis.) and sophomore Ceejay Schaffner (Winona, Minn.) netted a win in a tight matchup. The pairing battled for a 9-7 victory.

- At No. 3 doubles it was junior Trevor Budewitz (Watertown, Wis.) and freshman Jonah Fowle (Menomonee Falls, Wis.) who gained an 8-4 win. CUW dropped the No. 1 doubles match by an 8-1 score.

- In singles play, the Falcons recorded wins at No. 4-6 singles, earning the 5-4 win for the team. Schaffner was among the winners in singles play, cruising to a 6-0, 6-2 decision at the No. 4 position.

- Senior Robert Spiering (Wauwatosa, Wis.) had little trouble in his win at No. 6 singles, rolling to a 6-0, 6-2 decision.

- The final singles win for the Falcons was by Budewitz at the No. 5 spot. He won his first set 6-2 before picking up a 7-6 (7-4) win in the second set.

- IWU gained wins at No. 1-3 singles, all in straight sets.

UP NEXT
- The Falcons will take on Concordia Seminary tomorrow in St. Louis. The match is set for a 4:30 pm start.
