HOW IT HAPPENED
- CUW started fast in their first round game of CIT against the host Concordia Chicago Friday night. Both offensively and defensively the Falcons were clicking in the first half as they drained six first half 3-pointers, three of which coming from senior guard Trevor Krizenesky (Brillion, Wis.) who made all of his three-point attempts.
- Defensively, CUW held CUC to 34 first half points, forced 11 turnovers and held the Cougars to 23.1 percent (3-of-13) from downtown.
- Krizenesky led all scorers at the half with 13 points off the bench and helped the Falcons go into the locker room with a 49-34 halftime lead.
- About four minutes into the second half the Cougars put together a 7-0 run to trim the Falcons lead to 11, but it was Krizenesky again who continued his hot shooting from downtown and rebuilt the Falcons lead hitting back-to-back triples.
- From that point on the Falcons intense defense and unselfish play guided them to a 98-69 win and a chance to bring home the CIT trophy in tomorrow's championship game.
- CUW's defense played outstanding holding the Cougars to 39.6 percent shooting (21-of-53) from the field and 26.1 percent (6-of-23) from downtown. The Falcons also owned the glass as they out-rebounded CUC 48-30.
- The Falcons had five players reach double-digits led by Krizenesky's game-high 23 points, senior guard Malcolm Bowers (Germantown, Wis.) added 15, senior forward Keith Kahlfeldt (New Berlin, Wis.) chipped in with 11 and junior guard Eric Kittel (Brillion, Wis.) and sophomore guard Josh Erickson (Manitowoc, Wis.) each scored 10.
