Men’s Basketball falls on the road to UW-Eau Claire

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – Concordia University Wisconsin fell on the road Tuesday night, 83-78 to UW-Eau Claire giving the Falcons their first loss of the season.

THE BASICS
- Final Score: UW-Eau Claire 83, Concordia Wisconsin 78
- Location: Zorn Arena – Eau Claire, Wis.
- Records: Concordia Wisconsin 2-1; UW-Eau Claire 2-2

HOW IT HAPPENED
- CUW came out strong in the first half at UW-Eau Claire only trailing once, 2-0 and leading by as much as 12 midway through the first half. Junior guard Eric Kittel (Brillion, Wis.) led the first half attack with 11 points.
- However a late 11-1 run by the Blugolds with just under six minutes to play in first half cut the Falcon lead to one going into the intermission.
- Coming out of the half it was back and forth for the final 20 minutes of play with multiple lead changes and neither team leading by more than five the entire second half.
- With just under three minutes to play in the game, UW-Eau Claire would take a 75-74 lead off a three pointer by Jack Martinek, a lead which they would not relinquish.
- CUW would get as close as one in the final minutes of play but the Blugolds would make 4-of-5 free throws in the final 40 seconds to seal the victory.  
- Senior guard Taron Edwards (Racine, Wis.) led the Falcons with 20 points on the night. 

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Edwards 20 points set a new career high for the senior guard.
- CUW stole 15 passes and forced 19 turnovers, both new season-highs for the team.
- The Falcons have yet to beat UW-Eau Claire in the five meetings between the two teams.

THE OPPOSITION
- UW-Eau Claire was led by George Diekelman who had a game-high 21 points.
- The Blugolds had four players finish with double-digit points.
- UW-Eau-Claire finished the game shooting 56.9 percent (33-of-58) for the game.

UP NEXT
- CUW will travel to Marian on Saturday, Nov. 28 to take on the Sabres in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference matchup. Tip-off is set for 2 pm.
