Women’s Volleyball advances to NACC Tournament Championship

MEQUON, Wis. – Top-seeded Concordia Wisconsin did what needed to on Thursday night, playing strong defense at critical moments and smashing timely kills en route to a 3-0 (25-20, 25-20, 25-17) victory over fourth-seeded Dominican in a NACC Tournament semifinal matchup.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Concordia Wisconsin found itself in an odd position, trailing that is, being behind 13-11 midway through the opening set against Dominican inside the R. John Buuck Field House. They gathered itself and responded with five unanswered points to force a Stars timeout. After the next three points were traded, the Falcons put together a 4-0 run to force another Dominican timeout and the next things fan say was the hosts leading 21-15.
- That important stretch of volleyball gave Concordia Wisconsin the momentum and energy it needed to win the opening set and continue its strong play into the second and third frames. After leading 18-11 in the second stanza, Dominican made a charge to get within a point, 21-20, but three-straight kills at the end – two by NACC Player of the Year Kaily (Moegenburg) Erdman – put the Falcons in front 2-0 in the contest.
- The final set was all Falcons, as they pushed their lead to as many as eight points, 19-11, before coasting to a 25-17 set win and another sweep over the opposition.
- Erdman (senior, Plymouth, Wis.) and sophomore Megan Mayer (Downers Grove, Ill.) each had 11 kills to lead all players, while junior Haley Sedo (Neenah, Wis.) posted 24 assists.
- Concordia Wisconsin's defense was again strong up front with 8.0 total team blocks, led by senior Lauren Nevinski (New Berlin, Wis.) who had five block assists. Junior Amanda Schulz (North Prairie, Wis.) had four block assists, to go along with eight kills. Senior Lindsey Casper (Hubertus, Wis.) tallied 20 digs to lead all players.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- There were just eight scoring ties and three lead changes in the contest.
- Dominican became the 17th opponent this season to finish a match hitting below .100, as they ended with a .092 attack percentage.
- The Falcons recorded at least 8.0 total team blocks for the 10th time this season.
- Erdman moved closer to becoming the second player in program history with at least 1,000 kills, 1,000 digs and 100 service aces. She now has 982 kills, 974 digs and 107 service aces.

THE OPPOSITION
- Gillian Jones had nine kills and 15 digs for the Stars and Anastasia Labadessa recorded 17 assists, eight digs and four kills. Megan Parker added 13 digs.

NEXT ON THE SCHEDULE
- Top-seeded Concordia Wisconsin hosts second-seed Aurora on Saturday at 7 pm for the NACC Tournament Championship.
