Falcons sweep Pointers in convincing fashion

MEQUON, Wis. – Concordia Wisconsin was efficient on offense and dominant on defense during a convincing 3-0 (25-19, 25-19, 25-19) sweep over UW-Stevens Point in non-conference action on Wednesday evening inside the R. John Buuck Field House.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- UW-Stevens Point entered just a spot out of the AVCA Top-25 national rankings and Concordia Wisconsin rose to the occasion against a difficult opponent and played energetically all match for its 16th sweep of the season.
- The Falcons led by three points, 13-10, midway through the opening set and before smashing kills to gain the next two points and force a Pointers timeout. They then went on to score six of the next nine points to take all the momentum before eventually winning 25-19.
- As has been the case this season, head coach Janelle Katz prefers to not take timeouts when her squad is down and let her players figure it out. The Falcons figured it out, after trailing 10-9 early in the second frame and finding themselves tied 19-19. At the right time and in the moment they put together an all-important 6-0 scoring run to take the second set 25-19.
- A six-point lead early on in the final stanza eventually increased to eight points, 21-13, late before UW-Stevens Point put a rally together. The visitors got to within 23-19 on the scoreboard, but it didn't matter because the Falcons were determined to walk away with a sweeping victory.
- Sophomores Holly Anderson (Grant Park, Ill.) and Megan Mayer (Downers Grove, Ill.) each had a team-high nine kills, while senior Kaily (Moegenburg) Erdman added eight kills. Senior Lauren Nevinski (New Berlin, Wis.) ended with seven kills and six block assists.
- Juniors Mackenzie Wockenfus (Appleton, Wis.) and Haley Sedo (Neenah, Wis.) had 20 and 18 assists, respectively, to lead the offense.
-- Senior Lindsey Casper (Hubertus, Wis.) recorded 16 digs to lead the defensive efforts.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Nevinski had six block assists for the third time this season.
- The Falcons defeated the Pointers for the first time in seven meetings.

THE OPPOSITION
- April Gehl led all players with 10 kills and Ellie Adams posted 23 assists.
- Kendra Kundinger tallied 16 digs and a trio of players recorded three block assists.
