Volleyball sweeps Wisconsin Lutheran in home NACC match

MEQUON, Wis. – Concordia University Wisconsin led from start to finish on Saturday afternoon en route to a 3-0 (25-16, 25-22, 25-21) sweep over Wisconsin Lutheran College during a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference match inside the R. John Buuck Field House.

The Falcons led by as many as 13 points during the match and had seven players record at least a kill in the win. CUW also had a pair of players record a double-double, while the team ended with six service aces and 7.5 total blocks.

Senior Hannah Griffiths (Antigo, Wis.) ended with 11 kills and 12 digs, while freshman Ashley Jehlicka (Salem, Wis.) posted her team-best 15th double-double of the season with 11 kills and 17 assists, to go along with five digs and five block assists. Freshman Amanda Lehnerz (West Bend, Wis.) led all players with a trio of service aces.

WLC (0-17, 0-7 NACC) was led by Alexis Hafemeister's 20 assists and Haley Feucht's 13 kills and eight digs. Megan Wierzbicki led all players with 13 digs.

CUW led by three points in the opening set before putting together an 11-1 scoring run to take a match-high 13-point lead, 22-9. The Warriors answered with seven points, but the lead was too much to overcome as the Falcons won 25-16 to take a 1-0 set lead.

The Falcons jumped out to a 5-0 and held on the rest of the way in the second frame. WLC got to within a point, 17-16, but CUW slowly pulled away for a 25-22 second set victory.

There were two scoring ties and a pair of lead changes in the third set, but CUW was too powerful as it responded from a 12-8 deficit with 10-consecutive points to gain all the momentum back. The Falcons would go on to sweep the Warriors with a 25-21 third set victory.

CUW returns to action on Tuesday with a home NACC contest at 7 p.m. against Rockford University.
