Volleyball sweeps NACC match at MSOE

MILWAUKEE – Concordia University Wisconsin flexed its offensive muscle on Wednesday night with a 3-0 (25-13, 25-21, 25-16) sweep at MSOE during Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play inside the Kern Center.
The Falcons hit .341 for the match and had seven players record at least two kills in the victory to remain atop the NACC standings after two matches played. The lead changed sides just six times during the match that last just one hour and 10 minutes.
Freshman Lauren Nevinski (New Berlin, Wis.) led all player with 12 kills and hit an astonishing .733, while freshman Ashley Jehlicka (Salem, Wis.) recorded 10 kills, 11 assists, two service aces, six digs and three block assists.
Senior Erin Howard (Labadie, Mo.) dug a match-high 17 attack attempts and sophomore Karina Klotz (Hubertus, Wis.) tied a match-high with 20 assists. Senior Britta Duchow (Potter, Wis.) continued her climb up the NACC record books with three block assists.
Maria Bintz paced the Raiders with nine kills, while Abby Born had 20 assists. MSOE recorded just 34 digs in the match and didn't have a player with a double-figure total.
CUW (10-3, 2-0 NACC) exploded out of the gates to start the contest with an 8-2 advantage. The lead blossomed into double-digits at 22-12 before the Falcons earned an opening set 25-13 victory. The Falcons hit an impressive .435 (12K-2E-23A) in the frame.
The second set was nearly identical as the opener to start with CUW taking an 8-2 lead, however, MSOE fought back and tied the match seven times before letting it slip away. The Falcons slowly pulled away from a 17-16 difference to win 25-21 and take a 2-0 lead in the league match.
CUW built a comfortable advantage early and never looked back, as MSOE got no closer than six points in the deciding set. In all, 14 players entered the match for the Falcons and 11 played at least two sets.
The Falcons return to play on Friday and Saturday for the NACC/Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Invitational, which is hosted by Wisconsin Lutheran College.
