Volleyball remains undefeated with pair of non-conference wins

WAUKESHA, Wis. – Concordia University Wisconsin's record is still unblemished after a pair of non-conference victories on Saturday afternoon. The Falcons defeated Carroll University 3-1 (25-19,20-25,25-17,25-15) and Lawrence University 3-1 (25-19,20-25,25-14,25-15).

CUW (5-0) finished with a .258 attack percentage in the two wins, while holding its opponents to a .126 attack percentage. They also served 12 aces and recorded 144 digs, compared to their opponent's eight service aces and 110 digs.

Freshman Ashley Jehlicka (Salem, Wis.) led the team with 23 kills and an impressive .419 attack percentage, to go along with 34 assists, 34 digs and two service aces. Freshman Terese Zymanek (Menomonee Falls, Wis.) smashed 20 kills, while three other Falcons accumulated double-digit kill totals.

Senior Carley Valentine (De Pere, Wis.) amassed 29 assists and 16 digs in seven sets played. Senior Hannah Griffiths (Antigo, Wis.) ended with 28 digs and 16 kills. Senior Britta Duchow (Potter, Wis.) led the team with six total blocks.

CUW 3, Carroll 1

Against the Pioneers, it was Jehlicka who recorded her first career triple double with 16 kills, 22 assists and 15 assists. She became just the third player since CUW joined the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference prior to the 2006 season to accomplish this feat.

CUW hit .270 for the match, but its offense came alive in the deciding fourth set with a .481 attack percentage (15K-2E-27A). Valentine assisted on 15 kills and junior Kelsa Rubeck (Eau Claire, Wis.) dug 14 attack attempts.

Kelly Sloyan led CU with 12 kills, while Taylor Kuehl paced all players with 36 assists. Jenna Shea had a match-high 17 digs.

CUW 3, Lawrence 1

Zymanek was the only player to finish with double-figure kills, 11, and paced the Falcons offense to their fifth-consecutive win to start the season. CUW ended with a .246 attack percentage, while its defense held LU to a dismal .059 attack percentage.

Valentine and Jehlicka had a combined 26 assists, while Jehlicka had a team-high 19 digs. Griffiths added 16 digs and nine kills. Four different players had at least one service ace.

Kayla Storm led the Vikings with seven kills and 10 digs.
