Budewitz named FOY in NACC Women's Tennis awards
MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Concordia Wisconsin's Ricki Budewitz was named Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Women's Tennis Freshman of the Year, the league office announced. The Falcons were well represented with four players receiving recognition.
Budewitz (Watertown, Wis.) finished the fall portion of the schedule with an 11-2 overall singles record and was 9-1 in NACC play. She was 8-2 over her last 10 matches and won six matches by a 6-0, 6-0 score. Budewitz joins a distinguished list of previous Concordia Wisconsin freshman to win NACC Freshman of the Year honors (Ashley Solberg 2015, Kaitlyn Strehlow 2009, Erin Henrich 2006).
Senior Bailey Kelly (Racine, Wis.) added All-NACC Singles accolades to her résumé after going 8-5 in overall and 8-2 in NACC matches. She played at the No. 2 position and won five matches giving up three or fewer games.
Senior Ashley Solberg (Waukesha, Wis.) added All-NACC Singles recognition to her extensive list of honors. She played at the No. 1 position and was 9-3 overall and 8-1 in NACC play. She ended the fall winning five in a row and eight of her last 10. Solberg won six matches giving up two games or less.
Solberg, along with junior Rebekah Spiegelhoff (Mount Pleasant, Wis.) earned All-NACC Doubles honors after going 6-0 together, all in league play. The duo joined forces in mid-September and won five matches by an 8-2 score or better.
Kelly and Budewitz were tagged with All-NACC Doubles accolades after posting a perfect 10-0 record together, all in NACC play. They were 9-0 at the No. 2 position and had winning streaks of five and three in a row during the fall.
Concordia Wisconsin was 10-1 overall in the fall portion of the schedule and finished second in the NACC with a 9-1 record to earn the No. 2 seed in the NACC Tournament and a first-round bye.
