Women's Lacrosse routs Benedictine in Senior Day win

MEQUON – Erin Lau set a pair of career highs to lead Concordia University Wisconsin in a Senior Day women's lacrosse victory at Fitting Field, 13-1, over Benedictine University on Saturday. With the win over the Eagles, CUW clinched a spot in the Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference Tournament for the first time in program history.

The Falcons (7-6, 5-3 MWLC) had several players set personal career bests on Saturday, including sophomore Hannah Redden (Libertyville, Ill.) with five points, to go along with recording-tying three assists. Lau (senior, Cary, Ill.) also had a strong game, setting personal marks in points (4) and caused turnovers (4), while also tying her single-game goal total with three tallies.

Joining Lau and Redden with impressive performances were junior Aly Pinkos (South Milwaukee, Wis.) and sophomores Stephanie Barry (Gurnee, Ill.) and Hayley Peppers (Franktown, Colo.). Pinkos tied her own single-game best in points (3) and assists (2), while Barry and Peppers each forced three turnovers. The Falcons finished the game with 21 caused turnovers, which is the most in program history.

Sophomore Emily Heckendorf (Merrill, Wis.) put CUW on the board just 58 seconds into play when she scored off one of Redden's three assists. That would start an eight-goal first half for the Falcons, which included two goals from Heckendorf, Redden, Lau, and one each from Peppers and sophomore Hannah Aton (Columbus, Wis.).

The Falcons would continue its dominant play in the second half, scoring five more goals, including two from Barry. Pinkos, Peppers and Lau all added scoring marks in the second 30 minutes of play. BU scored its lone goal with 19 seconds on the clock when McKall Pugliese scored.

Sophomore goalie Rebecca David (Oregon, Wis.) earned her seventh win of the season as she stopped 10 of the 11 shots she faced. Her counterpart, Tricia Baluyut, also finished with 10 saves.

CUW will conclude its regular season schedule next Saturday when they visit Otterbein University for a non-conference matchup. The game is set to start at 11 a.m.
